UBDS is proud to announce the achievement of the Microsoft Azure Advanced Specialisation – Windows Virtual Desktop Advanced Specialisation. This is our third advanced specialisation in nine months.

This specialisation showcases our deep knowledge and experience in implementing Windows Virtual Desktop, including deploying, optimising, and securing virtual desktop infrastructure on Azure. This speaks to our demonstrated ability to meet the needs of our customers as they continue to evolve their remote work approach, in this ever-changing world.

To achieve this specialisation, we needed to meet the highest standards for service delivery and support. Requirements included having a Microsoft Gold Cloud Platform competency, reaching certain performance targets, and most importantly having knowledgeable employees certified in Azure, covering security engineers, solution architects and administrators. All requirements were verified by Microsoft and a third-party auditor.

Why is this important?

Windows Virtual Desktop enables organisations to allow their users to securely access their desktop on any device, regardless of whether it is a company, personal or shared device.

This solution has obviously boomed over the last two years, as companies were forced to close offices and find new ways of working. Windows Virtual Device gives organisations the ability to scale their virtualisation requirements and effortlessly manage their desktop image, applications, and users. With all the Microsoft Azure security features, and Active Directory for authentication, it also ensures that systems and data remain secure.

Benefits include:

  • Reduced costs – Infrastructure costs are reduced by hosting services in Azure, labour costs are also reduced as virtual desktops can be configured with all the latest versions of applications already installed, and the licensing model has been simplified.
  • Improved productivity – Employees have access to all their data, resources, and apps across multiple secure devices. They can work uninterrupted, keeping downtime to a minimum.
  • Scaling faster – New users can be quickly set up, and likewise, if people leave the business, you can quickly reduce the number of licenses and not be left with technical debt.
  • Simpler IT management – Windows Virtual Desktop is easily managed via the Azure Portal where desktops can be powered on or off, and security solutions deployed to reduce vulnerabilities, improve compliance, and protect company assets.

Jo Feldman, Chief Commercial Officer at UBDS says, “I am immensely proud of the team for achieving our third advanced specialisation in such a short period of time. Our technical competency across the Microsoft platform, coupled with our ISO accreditations (in Quality Management, Information Security, and Environmental Management) demonstrates that we have the specialist skills to continue delivering amazing outcomes to our customers”.
